USAV Rules Changes for 2010

All Charge players must attend a referee or scorkeeper clinic.  The clinics are being scheduled and will be posted on the website when the date and location are confirmed.

If you play in a tournament before the clinic, be aware of the following major changes (major meaning the player or parent (but not always both) will recognize a difference:

  1. Net play has changed, A LOT !!  Incidental contact with the net will not be called this season.  Net violations this season will be when the offensive player, or blocker, hits the tape at the top of the net while making a play on the ball.  Brushing the net, running into the net, or falling into the net will not be a fault this year; unless it interferes with the other team's play, or creates an advantage for the team in the net.  USAV Rules 11.3.1, Rule 11.3.2, Rule 11.4.4
  2. Centerline violations will be called if the foot completely crosses the centerline (same as last year), but any part of the body above the foot can cross the centerline and it will not be a fault; unless it interferes with the other team's play on the ball.  So knees, hands, arms, heads, and bodies that slide across the centerline will not be a centerline violation until the foot slides completely across the centerline OR it interferes with the other team's play on the ball.  USAV Rule 11.2.2.2
  3. Substitution requests will not be acknowledged until the substitute player enters the substitution zone.  Coaches asking for subs will be waived off as improper requests, the player entering the zone is the request for a substitution.  So be ready to go and get into the substitution zone quickly when your coach directs you.  USAV Rules 15.10.3 (a)(b) and (c)
  4. Warm ups are still 2 minutes of shared time, 4 minutes to the serving team and 4 minutes to the recieving team; but, NO BALL HANDLING when the other team has the court.  Teams are to wait in their bench area during the four minutes of warmup time to the other team, and are not permitted to have any ball handling during that time.  So use the time to get your lineups and rosters perfect and get them submitted early. USAV Rule 7.2.2.b
  5. BOTH Coaches must sign the scoresheet after the match to verify the final scores.  USAV Rule 25.2.3.3

Here is a summary of ALL the USAV Rule changes for this season (remember, the Libero serving rule is an OKRVA region rule:
